The penalties for Illegal Immigration

The penalties for Illegal Immigration
The penalties for Illegal Immigration

While illegal immigration may be a hot topic within the United States, the issue has caught up with other countries as well.  Illegal immigration to a country may happen in two ways.  One could be that an immigrant has entered the country without valid or forged documents and the other could be where an immigrant has entered the country legally and overstayed their legally allowed time in the country for economic reasons.  Regardless of where the immigrants are from the one goal that they all look for is a better life.  Illegal immigration is a crime punishable under the laws of the country and there are penalties that are prescribed.  The penalties for illegal immigration could range from imprisonment, deportation and financial penalties and in almost all cases it is the person that is apprehended who is responsible for the same.

Most countries have laws in place that make the employment of an illegal immigrant a crime and penalties for the same have been set.  However, employers with an intention of saving on the cost of employee payments do take a risk and employ illegal immigrants.  They are paid low wages and are not liable for any kind of benefits.  The penalty for getting caught is more on the illegal immigrant than the employer, who in most cases is given the benefit of doubt and let away with little or no penalties.  The illegal immigrant on the other side faces a life of uncertainty and could also face the brunt of all penalties that are set for illegal immigration.

Where there could be many penalties for illegal immigration one of the main penalty that could be imposed could be the deportation of the immigrant who could face prosecution in their country of origin for crossing borders without valid documentation.  Therefore an illegal immigrant could face penalties in the country where they were apprehended and their country of origin.
