People who move from one country to another seeking eventual citizenship are known as immigrants. People have been moving from countries seeking a better life or trying to escape prosecution from the governments of their own countries. While human migration from countries has existed throughout history, immigration refers to the lawful and permanent residence of an individual.
The modern era of immigration is related to the immigration and development laws of the country chosen as the eventual destination by the immigrant. Citizenship confers a right to the individual for permanent citizenship of the country subject to the immigration laws of the country. However, these laws may be applied subjectively as per the requirement of the nation.
There may be two causes for the immigration of individuals from one country to another. Commonly known as the Push and Pull factor.
The push factor relates to the movement of people for economic reasons such as better wages and better corking conditions. Laborers from poor countries looking for better wages may move to a country in search of jobs at a price lower than what the locals may demand. Natural disasters and over population can result in the push factor gaining importance and having people moving from one country to another.
The pull factor may depend upon different conditions that a person may be looking for such as higher education, better economic conditions and offers by foreign employers with the prospect of higher wages based on the type of qualifications held by the individual.
A recent phenomenon of retired people from rich countries moving to another country that offers low cost living and better climate than their country of origin is also seen. Religious and political persecution is also a factor that may force people to seek immigration from their countries of origin.
There may be many barriers that an immigrant may face at the time of movement from their countries. Apart from the laws of the country chosen they will also face a change in the culture, language and even religious factor. This may have a lasting impression on the mind of the immigrant for the positive or in some cases even the negative.
