Illegal immigration

One of the darker aspects of any country is the prospect of an illegal immigrant being in the country.  This matter has developed alarming proportions with developed countries often being the destinations of such immigrants.  People from under developed countries, dictatorships or even people just seeking a better quality of life but not having the qualifications and documents for the same may resort to such actions.  Where it is accepted that countries with lax administration may overlook such activities for political reasons countries like the United States and the EEC may take this matter seriously as illegal immigrants pose a threat to their security and economic structure.

Illegal immigration is looked at as a serious violation of basic human rights of the country.  Illegal immigrants are a huge drain on the financial and economic resources of the country and pose a threat of spiraling crime as well.  Instances of illegal immigrants involved in low cost jobs that could take away the legal rights of a lawful citizen along with imposing a cost on the state as well in terms of unemployment benefits being made payable to the person who has lost out.  One of the more serious problems faced in the United States is that of identity theft.  Perhaps hundreds of thousands of Americans are today sharing their identity with another person and not even aware of the same.

The problem of such activity being encouraged is partly the blame of lawful citizens as well.  As some of them may do it for reasons to help a relative get a better life in the country others may do so with the intention of economic gain and personal profits.  In both cases they too may be held liable of the offence of illegal immigration and be prosecuted by the authorities when apprehended.  At the same time they may also be giving an identity to a person who may be planning to commit a criminal activity.  It has been found that identity theft alone has caused enormous losses to people and the government in terms of finance and social benefits.

Illegal immigration has also brought in the fear of terrorist attacks and the recent activity of such people means that one has to be more careful than ever before about the same.  Patrolling the border may be the job of the government.  Reporting the activity of illegal immigration is the responsibility of every citizen as they could be the victims of the next identity theft or terrorist attack.
